Healthwatch Newcastle Annual Report 2025-2026
We ensure that leaders and decision-makers hear your voice and use your feedback to improve care. We can also help you find reliable and trustworthy information and advice.
In the last six month, we supported 9,889 people to have their say and get information about their care. 181 people came to us for clear advice on topics such as GP appointments and finding an NHS dentist. 557 people participated in our research projects this year, and we published 4 reports.

Reasonable Adjustments Report
Autistic people and people with a learning disability in Newcastle continue to face significant barriers when accessing GPs.
Although reasonable adjustments are required under the Equality Act 2010 and are available in some GPs, awareness and consistent implementation remain limited among both patients and GP staff. As a result, many people do not access or benefit from reasonable adjustments that could substantially improve their healthcare experiences and outcomes.
The report engaged autistic people and people with a learning disability through focus groups to identify the reasonable adjustments that matter most to them.

Accessible Information & Health Literacy Report
Accessible information and health literacy are critical to improving health outcomes and reducing inequalities.
In Newcastle, several significant barriers limit people’s ability to access and understand health information. These include a low average reading age, language barriers, digital exclusion and the complexity of health information.
Healthwatch Newcastle has gathered evidence through background research, engagement with local communities, and consultation with health professionals and experts. This includes General Practices, pharmacists, the Integrated Care Board (ICB), and public health teams.
